UK Music Bridges Gap Between Education And Music Biz

“A new virtual academy has been launched to help young people get a job in the music industry.” UK Music Skills Academy is the joint venture baby of UK Music and Creative & Cultural Skills which formed with the goal to connect the music industry and the educator sectors.  The focus is on apprenticeship and collaborative working between educators and execs.  The question now is, why is this not in the U.S.?  Well… Why not?  Could this same idea be applied to the U.S. music industry?  Who are the key players that would be involved if it was brought to the states?  Let us know what you think.

The UK Music Skills Academy is a new joint venture between UK Music and Creative & Cultural Skills, which aims to increase collaborative working between the music businesses and the education sector for the benefit of young people aspiring to work in the industry.

The Academy will enable the music industry to engage directly with training providers and will allow music businesses to directly influence the training of their future workforce, creating an easier mechanism for employers looking to take on apprentices.

Through the Academy, hundreds of young people every year will be able to apply for apprenticeships at record labels, recording studios, management groups, promoters, and audio suppliers who have signed up to the initiative.

Companies already on board include Universal Music, Sony Music, Warner Music, Beggars Group, Cherry Red, Live Nation, Britannia Row, Ad Lib and the National Arenas Association.

In Tommy Mottola’s bio, Hitmaker, the former Sony president says MJ would invest immense amounts of his own money to finance his massive recording and touring budgets, believing he could reach “Thriller” status once again.  The rumors flew quickly after the late King of Pop died that he had passed away broke.  Even stranger rumors flew about him being murdered in an Illuminati backed insurance scheme.  But according to one expert, if Jackson had lived until 65, MJ would’ve earned over a Billion (with a capital B!) dollars thanks to his global tour and Vegas show. Sadly, the world lost a great icon and never got to see either.

12 Ways Bands & Brands Are Standing Out On @vanswarpedtour [via Hypebot and Kosha Dillz]

Just wanted to share this insightful post from indie rapper Kosha Dillz (@koshadillz) and the friendly folks at @Hypebot.

It’s Warped Tour season again, which means your favorite band you never heard of will be hustling amongst over 100 other bands in parking lots all across the country. Since I was on the beloved tour last year on a side stage and sitting in with various kick ass bands like BallyHoo! and Captain Capa, I have learned that this place is the best world to figure out your own DIY tactics.

Here are a list of 12 things bands/brands are doing to stand out!

1. Sell it for $1 dollar. – Why not sell something for $1? Everyone wants something to take home. If you sell it for $1, you work an exchange of income and they also remember you selling something for $1.

2. Have a little boom box stuffed animal named Pickles – MC LARS is crushing the game with his future kids show, and if you ever get to see someone with a stuffed animal rapping, or even skunking on stage (the ska version of dancing). If you don’t have a stuffed animal make another make shift device that grabs people’s attention. I would probably have a stuffed animal pickle named Kosha Dillz Jr. or something. But mind you, the youth really attract to soft and cuddly. I think we all do. Continue reading
